Poinsettia Fundraiser Fundraiser<p>​</p><p><strong>Poinsettia Fundraiser</strong></p><p>It's that festive time of year! Hillcrest is offering our Bradford Greenhouse Poinsettia Gift Card program.  You can order at <a href=""></a> or in person via paper order from a student.  Purchase a gift card for each poinsettia you wish to purchase. These GIFT CARDS are redeemable at Bradford Greenhouse for poinsettias, where you will then select the poinsettia of your choice by redeeming your GIFTCARD(s). November 16<sup>th</sup>  is the last day to order online and November 15<sup>th</sup> is the last day to submit paper orders. Gift Cards will be delivered the week of November 21<sup>st</sup>.  In addition, our school will receive back 5% of any additional purchases you make when picking up your poinsettia!!! Proceeds will go Athletics, Presentations and Character Education. Thank you for your continued support!<br></p><p><br></p>
Hillcrest Update - Oct 27, 2022 Update - Oct 27, 2022<p>​</p><p>Good Afternoon Hillcrest Families,</p><p>Please see the following important information below in regards to Hillcrest!</p><p><strong>Poinsettia Fundraiser</strong></p><p>We will be launching our Bradford Greenhouses Poinsettia fundraiser.  It goes live on School Cashonline on October 31st, and runs until November 16th.  Order forms will also be sent home with students.  Please note that forms must be returned to the school by November 15th for processing. Orders made on paper must be paid with cash upon submission to the school.  If you are interested, you simply order the poinsettia size you want and you will receive a gift card to use at Bradford Greenhouses to purchase one of your choice.  Gift cards will be delivered through the school during the week of November 21st.  This fundraiser is helping support Athletics, Character Education, and School Presentations.  Thank you for your support!</p><p><strong>Transportation Letter</strong></p><p>Please see the attached letter in regards to the code of conduct expected while riding on school transportation.  Please review this letter with your child(ren) even if you do not take a bus to school.  It is possible that walking students may ride on transportation for field trips or school activities.  A paper copy has been sent home to students who ride the bus daily and we are asking that you sign and return the paper copy to the school after reviewing.  Thank you for your support with this matter.</p><p><a href="">Oct 26, 2022 Letter.pdf</a> </p><p><strong>October 31, 2022 (Reminder)</strong></p><p>Please note that we will not be wearing costumes to school this year (as in previous years).  Students and staff are encouraged to wear your Hillcrest Spirit Wear or our school colours (red & black). </p><p><strong>School Photographs</strong></p><p>School composite photographs will be coming home over the next couple days for families that have not received them yet.  Please watch for them in your child(ren)'s school bag.  Retake day has been scheduled for November 10th.</p><p><strong>Student Led Conferences (Reminder)</strong></p><p>Student conferences will be taking place during the week of Nov 14-18th.  Please check with your child(ren)'s educator to book a time if you don't have one yet.</p><p><strong>Progress Report Cards</strong></p><p>Progress Report Cards will be coming home on November 10th.</p><p><strong>Volunteering</strong></p><p>Volunteers must complete the training in the volunteer portal and upload their criminal record check to SCDSB before being able to volunteer in a SCDSB school.  If you need a letter to take to the police station to complete a check, please contact the main office. <a href=""></a></p><p> </p><p>It is hard to believe we are two months into the school year.  Please watch for the November edition of "The Tiger Tales" which will have more information to share about the upcoming month.<br> <br>Mr. Meraska & Mrs. Kenny<br></p><p><br></p>

Meet The Educator/Book Fair - Sept 28, 2022 The Educator/Book Fair - Sept 28, 2022<p>​</p><p><strong>Meet the Teacher</strong></p><p>We are excited to welcome our families back into the school tomorrow, Wednesday September 28th for Meet the Teacher from 5:00pm to 6:30pm.  Pizza and drinks will available in the gym for those families who pre-ordered.  Unfortunately, no items will be available for purchase at Meet the Teacher.  Classrooms will be open for visiting and be sure to sign up for your parent teacher interview time slot.  We will also have computers available in the front foyer for parents/guardians to complete their child's online permission and acknowledgments.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Book Fair</strong></p><p>Our Scholastic book fair starts tomorrow!  Students will be coming down to the library to preview the books on Wednesday and then they may purchase items on Thursday and Friday.  We are also open for purchasing at our Meet the Teacher event.  There is also a link for virtual shopping at the fair.  Any items purchased online will be sent to the school and then distributed to students.  The online link will be live starting Wednesday, September 28<sup>th</sup> and will close on Monday, October 3rd.  If we don't see you in person then check out our fair with the following link.  </p><p><a href=""></a><br></p><p><br></p>

Back Tigers!<p>​</p><p>August 31, 2022</p><p> </p><p>Dear Hillcrest Families & Students,</p><p> </p><p>We hope that you have had a great summer and enjoyed the beautiful weather that we have had.  As you prepare for the first day of school, here are some important things you'll need to know.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Elementary school start date (Kindergarten to Grade 8):</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>The first day of school for students in Year 2 (Senior) Kindergarten to Grade 8 (in-person and remote learning) is Tuesday, September 6, 2022. </p><p> </p><p>Year 1 (Junior) Kindergarten students will begin school on Thursday, September 8, 2022.  Year 1 students will hear from their classroom educators on Tuesday September 6<sup>th</sup> regarding classroom placement and first day routines.</p><p> </p><p>The school day starts at 9:25 am with supervision on the school yard beginning at 9:10 am.  The school day ends at 3:45.  Please refer to the attached map for pick up and drop off locations for walking students at the school.  <strong>**Please note that our parking lot is closed before school and at the end of the day, except to accommodate school vehicles and individuals that require accessibility parking**</strong></p><p> </p><p><strong>Class Placement (Tentative)</strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>On the first day of school staff will be outside to assist students to meet in their grade specific areas.  Once students are in their grade areas, teachers will connect with students in their class and the day will begin.  Please note that all class placements are tentative until Turn Around Day on September 27<sup>th</sup>.</p><p> </p><p>Kindergarten – Will gather with kindergarten educators on the upper tarmac (Year 2's)</p><p>Grade 1-3 – Will be brought into the school and meet in the lower foyer</p><p>Grade 4 & 5 – Will gather on upper tarmac by junior entrance doors</p><p>Grade 6-8 – Will gather by the intermediate doors</p><p>French Immersion Grade 1-4 – Will gather in the library</p><p> </p><p>Classroom teachers will communicate with families the best way to communicate with them.</p><p> </p><p>Please watch for further communication in our regular monthly newsletter "The Tiger Tales" in the upcoming weeks.</p><p> </p><p>Thankyou,</p><p> </p><p>Mr. Meraska & Mrs. Kenny<br></p><p><a href="/PublishingImages/Lists/LocalNews/AllItems/School%20Map.pdf"><img class="ms-asset-icon ms-rtePosition-4" src="/_layouts/15/images/icpdf.png" alt="" />School Map.pdf</a><br></p><p><br></p>
June 14, 2022 - Hillcrest Update 14, 2022 - Hillcrest Update<p>​</p><p>Good Afternoon Tiger Families,<br> We hope that everyone is enjoying the nice summer like weather that we have been enjoying over the past few weeks.  Please see below some important information that we would like to share with you.</p><p><strong>June 15</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong> – </strong>Students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 will be participating in some fun outdoor activities facilitated by staff and our intermediate students.  **Please remember to bring sunscreen, water bottle and proper outdoor attire.  </p><p><strong>June 17</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong> </strong>- Students in Ms. Duff's Grade 2/3 class to Grade 6 will be participating in some fun outdoor activities facilitated by staff and intermediate students.  **Please remember to bring sunscreen, water bottle and proper outdoor attire.  </p><p><strong>June 24</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong> - </strong> Report Cards will be sent home at the end of the school day.</p><p><strong>June 27</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong> </strong> Grade 8 Graduation – 6:30 pm in the gymnasium.</p><p><strong>June 28</strong><strong><sup>th</sup></strong><strong> - </strong> Last day of class for students.</p><p><strong>Fundraising Update</strong></p><p>Thank you to the families that supported our Wendy's fundraiser in May.  The school raised $500 that will be used towards school enhancements and athletics. Thank you to everyone that participated in our fundraising initiatives this year.</p><p><strong>Riding Bikes to School</strong></p><p>It is great to see so many students riding their bikes and walking to school where they live within proximity to do so.  Please remind your child(ren) about the importance of safety and being cognizant of their surroundings while riding their bike to and from school.  Please remind students that they are to walk their bike to the rack once they are on school property.</p><p> </p><p>Thank you,</p><p>Mr. Meraska & Mrs. Kenny<br></p><p><br></p>
