Hello Hillcrest Families,
We hope your family has enjoyed the holiday season, resting and rejuvenating for 2022!
As previously shared, our government has placed a pause on our return to @school learning as a measure to reduce the spread of COVID in our communities. Our students will be spending at least the next 8 days from January 5th to 14th learning from home through our @home learning platforms – Google Classroom and Google Meets. We are hopeful that the combined efforts in our current closure will enable us to return to more normal practice soon. Although we have learned through our distance learning experience from the previous school year, we will undoubtedly face moments of frustration and angst through this, but by supporting each other as we have, we can get through this. As I continue to say to staff, students and community – "We've Got This!"
Technology is available to those who require a device (Chromebook) for their child(ren) to use. Please come to the front doors of the school and ring the buzzer between 9:30-3:30 (January 4-7th) if you require a device. Staff will be available to assist you with this.
The School Day
Teachers will be connecting with students/families to check in and confirm technology access, as well as establish daily routines for the remainder of the closure. The Google Classroom and Google Meets will be the platforms used to support learning.
Each day, students are expected to be online with their teacher at 9:25 AM. Attendance will be taken and the day will begin with teachers giving lessons synchronously (live) and asynchronously (independent work) throughout the day from 9:25-3:45.
Teachers will establish a schedule with students to be shared through the Google Classroom.
Students who are not online when attendance is done between 9:25 AM - 9:45 AM will be marked as absent. If your child is unable to attend school on a particular day (sick etc.)...just like a normal school day, please call the school office (705-728-5246 #1 for safe arrival) and indicate that your child will not be attending to the day's work. Office staff will be checking the messages each day regularly. Thank you.
Access to Google Classroom
To log into your child's Google Classroom, click on the link to the Google Meet that is located in the Classroom header at the top of the home/stream page and join the Google Meet. The teacher will join at 9:25 AM. If a particular teacher has a different set of instructions, they will post a message in the Google Classroom stream or via their alternate communication methods.
Classroom teachers will share Google Classroom access support tips with families as they connect with you tomorrow.
We are hopeful to return to @school learning as soon as possible, but we will do what it takes to ensure our students, staff and community are safe and well. If we have learned something from this, it's "anything is possible". We appreciate your understanding and support as we work together to get through this challenging time.
Staff are available throughout the school day to answer questions and provide support. Please do not hesitate to reach out and ask questions when you have them.
