Based on the recommendation of the OCMOH, the</span><a href="https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/" target="_blank"><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;"> </span></a><span style="font-size:11pt;font-family:arial;color:#000000;background-color:transparent;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap;"> has been updated and includes a more sensitive COVID-19 symptom list as well as the requirement for anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 to self-isolate and stay home, regardless of vaccination status. Rapid antigen tests will be sent home with students. Remote Learning Update - January 4, 2022http://hil.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/192Remote Learning Update - January 4, 2022<p>​</p><p>Wednesday January 4, 2022</p><p>Hello Hillcrest Families,</p><p>We hope your family has enjoyed the holiday season, resting and rejuvenating for 2022!</p><p>As previously shared, our government has placed a pause on our return to @school learning as a measure to reduce the spread of COVID in our communities. Our students will be spending at least the next 8 days from January 5th to 14th  learning from home through our @home learning platforms – Google Classroom and Google Meets.  We are hopeful that the combined efforts in our current closure will enable us to return to more normal practice soon.  Although we have learned through our distance learning experience from the previous school year, we will undoubtedly face moments of frustration and angst through this, but by supporting each other as we have, we can get through this.  As I continue to say to staff, students and community – "We've Got This!"</p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Technology</strong></span></p><p>Technology is available to those who require a device (Chromebook) for their child(ren) to use.  Please come to the front doors of the school and ring the buzzer between 9:30-3:30  (January 4-7th) if you require a device.  Staff will be available to assist you with this.</p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>The School Day</strong></span></p><p>Teachers will be connecting with students/families to check in and confirm technology access,  as well as establish daily routines for the remainder of the closure. The Google Classroom and Google Meets will be the platforms used to support learning.</p><p>Each day, students are expected to be online with their teacher at 9:25 AM.  Attendance will be taken and the day will begin with teachers giving lessons synchronously (live) and asynchronously (independent work) throughout the day from 9:25-3:45.</p><p>Teachers will establish a schedule with students to be shared through the Google Classroom.</p><p>Students who are not online when attendance is done between 9:25 AM - 9:45 AM will be marked as absent. If your child is unable to attend school on a particular day (sick etc.)...just like a normal school day, please call the school office (705-728-5246 #1 for safe arrival) and indicate that your child will not be attending to the day's work. Office staff will be checking the messages each day regularly. Thank you.</p><p><span style="text-decoration:underline;"><strong>Access to Google Classroom  </strong></span></p><p>To log into your child's Google Classroom, click on the link to the Google Meet that is located in the Classroom header at the top of the home/stream page and join the Google Meet. The teacher will join at 9:25 AM. If a particular teacher has a different set of instructions, they will post a message in the Google Classroom stream or via their alternate communication methods.</p><p>Classroom teachers will share Google Classroom access support tips with families as they connect with you tomorrow.</p><p>We are hopeful to return to @school learning as soon as possible, but we will do what it takes to ensure our students, staff and community are safe and well.  If we have learned something from this, it's "anything is possible". Change of Learning Modeshttp://hil.scdsb.on.ca/about-us/news/school-news/190Change of Learning Modes<p>​<br></p><p>**SENT IN DECEMBER NEWSLETTER** DEC 3, 2021<br></p><p>Dear Parents/Guardians:</p><p>As previously communicated to SCDSB families in May 2021, Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB) elementary school families are being provided an additional opportunity to request a change in learning mode (In-Person or Learn@Home) for their child(ren), where available space exists for Term 2 (February 22 to June 30, 2022). </p><p>As you are aware, the Ministry of Education directed school boards to develop plans for the 2021-2022 school year that included both In-Person and Learn@Home options, as well as flexible and responsive options should the need arise for schools to pivot based on local public health conditions.
